Project Description:
Straw marquetry is a 17th-century craft that involves gluing this plant material onto a surface to create a decorative element. It has a natural varnish on its outer layer that gives it shine and protection. The straw is grown, harvested, and dyed by a farmer in Burgundy, in France.
I explore the organic forms of nature, which offer me an infinite variety of sinuous lines and curves, but also the repetition of abstract geometric shapes to create visually dynamic compositions with effects of depth, movement, or relief.
This approach is complemented by the use of traditional patterns to fully exploit their play of light and visual impact.Try it!
