Artist Statement/ Bio
Born and raised in Koreatown, Los Angeles, Sebastian Tovar graduated from Otis College of Art and
Design in 2014 with a BFA in Painting.
Cultivating inspiration from psychology, music, and memory, Tovar’s textured acrylic compositions
investigate the nuanced, emotional complexities of the human experience. He explores how shape, color
and composition can visually translate emotional realities - such as boundaries, codependency, and
relational transgressions. Abstract and figurative shapes may blend into each other, overpower one
another, submit to one another or join harmoniously as one; while other shapes may protect, play with or
latch onto others, just as we as humans do with those around us.Try it!
