Overview
In Greek mythology, the Nereids were 50 sea nymphs, daughters of Nereus, the "Old Man of the Sea", and Doris. They were known for being beautiful, proud, and helpful to sailors during storms. The Nereids represented the ocean's life-sustaining power and were often protectors of sailors and marine life. Some well-known Nereids include Amphitrite, Poseidon's wife and the sea goddess, and Thetis, Achilles' mother and Peleus' wife.
