"Survivor Ribbon Series #1" serves as the inaugural chapter in a deeply personal artistic endeavor inspired by the resilience of individuals facing cancer, particularly influenced by the women in my life who have confronted this formidable challenge.

This is the second in my Survivor Ribbon Series supporting women and their families battling Cancer. This ribbon in teal represents Ovarian Cancer, the disease that took my mother. We shared our love of science fiction, the universe, and the vast unknown and so this depiction came out of the thought of my mother, the stars, and the constellations.

This is the third and final painting in my Survivor Ribbon Series supporting everyone battling Cancer and their families and friends. This ribbon in all colors and outlined in lavender represents all cancers. My heart goes out to everyone dealing with this disease.

This piece represents my emotional state after having just lost my mother. This was the second piece I created following that loss and this is how I imagine feelings are present in our minds - a storm of thoughts and emotions. I particularly like how the three-dimensional effect in this painting gives it depth and the idea that some emotions are closer to the surface for us at a given time while others are rising and breaking through from below. Definitely some anger and sadness at the surface at the time I created this piece.

I like this one a lot more in person. I used oils as the base and then used acrylic silver as a top coat - the entire piece shimmers in direct light - I wanted to play with different techniques to add shine. As for the meaning, I've been in a constant mindset lately of seeking meaning in every aspect of my daily life - this depicts my ongoing struggle with those thoughts.

I regularly take the time to sit and focus my mind and work on creating greater awareness of myself and my surroundings. I find it incredibly peaceful to sit outside, close my eyes and focus on the sounds around me and focus on my other senses - the wind through the trees, the bird calls etc..While I was hyper-focused on my own being one day I realized the shapes and colors I was seeing with the sunlight coming through my eyelids even with my eyes closed. This painting represents what I had seen that day without actually looking. Take time to tune into your other senses and I think you'll appreciate the peace that follows.

Sometimes I feel compelled to paint but don't have any particular image or subject in mind. So what I do is pick out my favorite color - in this case, red and I begin making marks on the canvas until it resembles something to me just like looking at the clouds and seeing the images form in your imagination. All I have to do then is just complete the image I see. This graceful Octopus formed as a result.

There are times as an artist when I struggle with knowing when a piece is done. For me, I stare at a piece I'm working on for weeks thinking it's missing something and I regularly convince myself to tweak the paintings and ultimately ruin many of them wishing I had left them well enough alone. With "Let it Be" I decided to ignore the urge to continue working on it and just allow it to be what it was initially created to be. Simple and beautiful.

I have always loved the romanticism of trains. This piece was meant to show the cozy romanticism I feel for riding the rails in the winter. I personally love the billowing steam/smoke showing the train's impact on nature and the mist of snow being plowed as the train passes by. Just a fun cozy painting.
