Michael Eckart has spent significant time in Japan, Bali, and other parts of Asia, but Venice now feels like home. 
 
From a young age, he aspired to be a photographer or designer, always drawn to creativity. However, these passions did not take center stage in his career until much later. 
 
In the 1960s, he began designing window displays and creating objects for visual merchandising. 
 
During this time, MoMA requested some of his designs for an exhibition on contemporary design in New York. By the late 1980s, the scale of his creations changed as he transitioned into jewelry design, working with materials such as buffalo horn, bone, and especially sterling silver. 
 
From 2004 to 2006, he exhibited his jewelry in Paris, where he was awarded the Étoiles de Mode for Best Design three consecutive times. 
 
His jewelry gained widespread recognition, with features in prestigious publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and others. 
 
In 2016, his son gifted him an old camera.

"In Japan, especially in large cities, one can observe a remarkable phenomenon of tolerant coexistence between very different lifestyles, subcultures and "orientations". They use the same public space without bothering each other. This is less due to active "respect" in the sense of appreciation, but rather to the deeply rooted social principle of harmony and the avoidance of harassment or intrusiveness. This automatically creates an atmosphere in which everyone can do their own thing as long as they do not disturb public order. However, this "respect" is often more of a social indifference. People leave others alone, but do not necessarily support or celebrate their way of life. It is a passive tolerance based on avoiding conflict, not active respect. I observed this very clearly one early evening in a side street in Shibuya. Two small groups were standing together chatting while a skater tried a "heelflip" over and over again in their midst, making a loud racket."

"I am an East Midlands based photographer specialising in monochrome work. My aim is to produce images which reflect the area in which I live, its landscape, structures and people. The exposure was made some time ago and sat on my computer until August 2025 when I worked on it.  These trees are a feature of Widmerpool which is a village a few miles from my home. I have passed the trees many times on the footpath between the two villages but on this occasion the light caught my attention, excited me, and I was compelled to make the exposure."

"Motherhood" was created on the high granite slopes of Tuolumne Pass in Yosemite National Park, where life clings to the harshest of landscapes. A solitary lodgepole pine rises defiantly from the rock, surrounded by younger trees that lean toward the light as if nurtured by their parent. The composition speaks to resilience, survival, and the timeless cycle of renewal in the Sierra Nevada. Shot with my Nikon Z9 full-frame mirrorless camera, the black-and-white rendering emphasizes the stark textures of granite and the sculpted forms of the clouds above. The tonal contrast draws the viewer into a dialogue between permanence and fragility, stone that has endured for millennia, and trees whose lives persist only through adaptability. In naming the work "Motherhood", I sought to honor the strength and continuity that binds generations, both in nature and in human life, reflecting the deep, unspoken connections that sustain existence."

I recently heard famous astronomer Neil deGrasse Tyson speak about art vs. science where he succinctly defined each art piece as something "unique" with nothing before or after it ever being the same as opposed to the science world where everything is already present but possibly not yet discovered. Brigitte currently lives in Switzerland. She is a self-taught photographer, started shooting as a child inspired by her grandfather whose name she chose to bear as her artist’s name to honour him. 
 
She shot with a film camera for years be it color or black and white, spent hours developing her films in a dark room. In her twenties she travelled around the globe taking her camera along and thus gained great experience especially in landscape and street life photography. 
 
Being reasonable instead of listening to her passion she studied medicine and is still partly working as a medic. Though after a life changing event she had more time for herself and the passion for photography came back stronger than ever. Still taken mostly by landscape and street life photography but also starting to experiment with other approaches.

"I chose black and white that day because it suited the gloomy weather and my mood, and it enhanced the contrasts. Walking through the streets of London, I arrived at Oxford Street and saw a queue at the Underground station, which was obviously closed to regulate the flow of people. While taking this photograph, ”Rush Hour”, I wanted to capture the movement of the crowd when the gates opened, and I felt that a long exposure would best transmit this to the viewer. Unconsciously, I used a frame within the frame by including the entrance barriers. I think it was my way of creating some space between myself and this overwhelming scene."

"I simply call this "Looking". I took this picture on a very sunny day in 25 April 2025. This is a cross section of the onlookers at a charity abseiling event as they are descending down the front of the very high Europa Hotel, in Belfast's Great Victoria Street. Most of the crowd are staring up as the  abseilers descending from the rooftop, but these two children prioritise looking and wondering about a street photographer in front of them which is much more interesting to them. Their gaze is what really makes this photograph and provides an interesting insight into how children and adults can see the world through a different lens."

Black and white photography collapses the world into a language of tone and shadow, transforming each image into a careful study of surfaces, edges, and the spaces between. The medium privileges observation over explanation. Surfaces retain a physical presence that demands attention, yet understanding is never imposed. In this quiet space, details emerge gradually, and the eye learns to read contrast, texture, and form with deliberate attentiveness.
