In this powerful composition, Sampson Kuvenguhwa brings together two opposing yet inseparable forces: the grounded and the transcendent. The polished lower form, smooth and contained, represents the human presence — anchored and shaped by life’s journey, like a vessel holding memory and identity.
Rising from it, the raw, unpolished stone erupts upward like a fragment of earth or sky. This untouched surface speaks of origins — the ancestral and natural forces beyond human control.
The balance between these forms is delicate but intentional. Kuvenguhwa suggests we stand between midzi (roots) and denga (sky) — between where we come from and what calls us beyond.
