Station 0 from the series Painter on the Road. The title speaks to a universal condition: sleepwalking through a life dictated by routine, algorithm, and expectation. A solitary figure sits trapped within a grid of charcoal lines and muted washes, not yet aware of the cage. The layered surface of ink, charcoal, and paint echoes the process itself: building up and breaking down until only the essential tension remains.

A figure moves between two open cube structures — one suspended above, one collapsing below — surrounded by dense, inky trees. Built from ink washes, white gouache and chalk on paper, the work is nearly monochrome: black, white, warm sand. The cube is not a cage here, but an unfinished portable construction, assembled and disassembled on the road. The title echoes the condition of the searcher: the searching itself is the destination. Part of the Painter on the Road series, 2026.

Bending Sound I
Station 1 from the series Painter on the Road. The first awakening — the moment something resonates beyond routine. A figure emerges from a luminous opening, no longer contained but not yet free. The composition breaks open: where Station 0 was gridlocked, here light forces its way through. Gestural charcoal lines bend and vibrate across washes of ink and paint, suggesting sound made visible. The surface carries the tension between stillness and the first impulse to move.

Dit werk pulseert met de nerveuze energie van een transit. In een bijna monochroom palet van asgrijs en diepzwart verschijnt een gefragmenteerde figuur, gevangen tussen vorming en ontbinding. De skeletachtige handvorm en de suggestie van een masker roepen de sfeer op van Bowie’s Thin White Duke: afstandelijk en koortsachtig tegelijk. De rauwe, rode lijnen snijden als bloedende spoorstaven door het linnen en markeren de frictie van de reis tussen stations. Een visuele drift.

De Kooi Station 0 uit de serie Drift
Een mens binnen een cirkel van schermen. Gestuurd door wat hem wordt voorgeschoteld, zonder frictie, zonder verlangen, zonder vraag. De wereld is een feed.
De Kooi is het nulpunt van de serie Drift: het moment voordat er een weg kan beginnen. Niet de gevangenis van buitenaf, maar die van binnenuit. De kooi heeft geen slot. Dat is het punt.

A person inside a circle of screens. Directed by what is presented to them, without friction, without desire, without question. The world is a feed.
The Cage is the zero point of the Drift series: the moment before a path can begin. Not a prison imposed from outside, but one constructed from within. The cage has no lock. That is the point.

Inkt op papier. Rappe, expressieve lijnen omcirkelen een figuur die nauwelijks nog figuur is. De verticale strepen sluiten af, maar niet als een muur, meer als een ritme. Een patroon dat zich herhaalt.
PainterOnRoad_Schets_0011 is een werktekening uit de serie Drift. Geen voltooiing, geen compositie, maar een vastlegging van een moment van zien. De hand beweegt zonder na te denken. Wat overblijft is de spanning tussen beweging en stilstand, tussen lijn en leegte.

Lost In My Circle

In 'Lost In My Circle' schetst Boronski met ruwe, zware houtskoollijnen een eenzame figuur die gevangen zit in een geometrische kooi. De man is geïsoleerd; opgesloten in een afgekaderde ruimte die hem zowel beschermt als verstikt. De harde contrasten, het weggegumde residu en het donkere stof op het doek benadrukken de fysieke beklemming en de psychologische stilstand. Het beeld toont puur de beklemming van een mens die vastzit binnen zijn eigen grenzen.


Lost In My Circle

In 'Lost In My Circle', Boronski uses rough, heavy charcoal lines to sketch a solitary figure trapped inside a geometric cage. The man is isolated; confined within a framed space that both protects and suffocates him. The harsh contrasts, the erased residue, and the dark dust on the canvas emphasize the physical confinement and psychological stagnation. The image captures the pure suffocation of a human being stuck, wandering within the strict borders of his own circle.

Exhibition “Drift” – Willem Boronski
Prologue: The Vertical Drift June 3 to August 27, 2025 – Cultuurhuis Huis Doorn

In this exhibition, originally titled “Drift”, Willem Boronski presents a selection of 22 abstract-expressieve works. While created intuitively ("without a map, but with a compass"), a recurring motif emerged during the process: The Ladder.

Retrospectively, this series represents the study of 'Vertical Drift': the human urge to climb, to build, and to ascend. The paintings explore the tension between order and disruption, balancing chance and intention.

These static works form the foundation for Boronski’s current multimedia project Painter on the Road (Studio Unit 1), where he steps off the ladder to explore the 'Horizontal Drift' of the eternal traveler.
