Hello art lover! I’m Kathy Mercure, the artist behind KatPaintsWatercolour and Botanical Impressions. My favourite thing is to watch water and pigment flow together, clash, and make gorgeous new colours. I paint botanical impressions, mostly in watercolour. I rarely use brushes, instead I splash lots of water and paint onto paper and then lay botanicals (either just picked or preserved) into the paint and impress them with weight and time. When I release them to the air, they dry and the most astoundingly beautiful things appear on the paper. I never thought I was an artist because I don’t draw well, don’t really enjoy painting representational art, and couldn’t create anything that felt like a piece of my soul. How could I call myself an artist? But I was told when I found my ‘what’ (as in what I MUST paint) I would feel comfortable calling myself an artist. And the genius art coach who told me this was so eerily prescient, I am so grateful I kept moving forward while looking backward to the botanical prints that I left behind for a bit, but kept calling me back. They fulfill me and make it feel safe to call myself an artist. Whether I continue to paint until the day I die, or pack up my supplies and move on (something I honestly can’t imagine now) I will always be a creator… a creative. I am a lover of beauty and sensuality and it permeates everything I’ve done in my life, whether in writing, baking, cooking, decorating, painting, or graphic arts, I LIVE TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL THINGS! I hope you enjoy this selection of my botanical impression in watercolour and that you find something that must be in your home or office.
