My paintings begin through making rather than from a fixed image. I build their surfaces slowly using acrylic, plaster, drawing, scraping and repeated adjustment. Forms are covered, revealed and reworked until the painting begins to hold a mood or presence of its own. Figures often appear partial, fractured or suspended within the surface, while horizons, weather and distance create a sense of psychological as well as physical space. I am interested in how memory, loss and belonging can be carried through colour, texture and form without becoming a literal narrative. My work is informed by mythology, spirituality and Jungian thought, particularly ideas of threshold, archetype and transformation. These influences shape the emotional atmosphere of the paintings without determining a single reading.
